ALMA JOY THE HAVAMALT

THE LOOKS OF AN ANGEL THE VOICE OF A BANSHEE

Since the 1950’s I have been aware of Cockerpoos. Cockerpoos are a cross breed of one purebred Cocker Spaniel and one purebred Poodle.  I have never known a Cockerpoo that I have not loved.

Listed below are the names of ten popular Mixed-Breed Dogs. Recently the mixed breed dogs have been called Designer Dogs. Designer Dogs are puppies of two pure bred dogs.

What are the pluses of Designer Dogs?  The cost a designer dog is a fraction of the price of a pure bred dog. Just be aware that the AKC never recognizes Designer Dogs. If you have allergies then cross breeding a favorite dog breed with an non shedding breed may produce a dog that does not trigger allergies.

This is not always the case. As we all know in a family of brothers and sisters even if both parents are natural red-head, that does not guarantee that all siblings will be red-heads. I feel sorry for people who put a deposit on a crossbred dog and expect the puppy to have the qualities that they think the dog SHOULD have.

It’s like a very ugly, brilliant, billionaire marrying a beauty queen who has below average intelligence with great expectations. The shopaholic, trophy wife and the CEO of Google, may have kids who are dyslexic and in need of a nose-job and a chin implant.

I have a wonderful Designer Dog named Alma Joy. Alma my Joy is a beautiful, happy dog who’s whose parents were a 5 lb Maltese dad and 12 lb Havanese mom. The Havanese is Cuban dog, a member of the Bichon Family. The Maltese (also a member of the Bichon Family) is a more high strung,  gorgeous tiny, powder puff of a dog that wants nothing more in life than to be carried around all day and often nervously screeches when left home alone.

The Designer Breed is called (embarrassment) HavaMalt. Why didn’t they call them MaltaHave. The name HavaMalt makes me want to get a malted milkshake. The breeders were hoping for a toy 5 lb dog with the gorgeous, white fur of a Maltese and the calm, patient personality of the Havanese. My Alma Joy is the size of the Havanese with absolutely beautiful, silky hair and a wonderfully sweetheart of a personality who screeches like a banshee when she wants to get my attention (which like a good trainer Itry to ignore not reward.)

Would I want a different dog with different attributes?  Alma Joy is my beloved little dog and I am sure that no other dog would be more wonderful to have in my household. I know that I am the lucky one who is just the right person for my Joyful Alma! Viva my Havanese Maltese Mix!

HUGS,
